FIAT LUX

Fiat lux is a Latin phrase that means 'Let there be light' or 'Be light. Light, in all its forms, has always been a powerful element in photography. For me, it is key to transform a scene, evoke emotions, and tell stories without words. For this particular photography project, light has become the central theme in capturing the essence of life and death. How does the light capture the transitory nature of life, or the permanence of death? As an arcane, difficult to understand but easy to feel, I experienced that we come from light and are meant to return to it.

After some years doing street photography around my hometown, Madrid, I needed to explore a more quiet place, where I could connect with myself. Light and silence directed me to the Almudena Cemetery, the biggest cemetery of western Europe. Surrounded by gravestones and only accompained by the birds singing and the caress of the sun on my face, I found a magical place to express myself. Almost through a meditation state, I connected with my subconscious, revealing a new magical world.
